Alex Melton

Alex Melton has been a research analyst with the Peterson Institute since June 2011. He works with Senior Fellow and Deputy Director Marcus Noland on economic and political issues related to North Korea as well as its relationship with neighboring Asian countries like China and South Korea and on issues related to resource curse in Africa and the Middle East. He received dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in economics and political science from Arizona State University in 2007 and a master’s degree in international affairs with a focus on international economics and Latin America from the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) at the University of California, San Diego, in 2011. His research at IR/PS focused on econometric analysis of issues related to economic development including studies investigating the impact of internet access in the developing world on government corruption indicators. He has worked as an international coordinator for Manos De Colores in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, providing educational and community support services to underprivileged youth and their families in the rural western highlands. In addition to English, Melton is fluent in Spanish.
